  • On 12 May 2011 Jean-Christophe Hoste gave a lecture on the political implications of the climate change negotiations for Africa at the Ghent University.
  • On 13 April 2011 Steven Van Bockstael gave a presentation on "Artisanal Mining of diamonds in Liberia" at the 1st Liberian Mining, energy & Petroleum Conference & Exhibition in Monrovia, Liberia. The conference was organised by the Ministry of Lands Mines & Energy, Republic of Liberia.
  • On 13 April 2011 Hans Hoebeke gave a lecture on Fragile States and Security at the course 'Internationale Veiligheid' at the Clingendael Institute in The Hague.
  • Hans Hoebeke became the Belgian member of the newly established Executive Academic Board in support of EU Security Sector Reform training (EAB SSR) within the European Security and Defence College.
  • On 22 March 2011 Hans Hoebeke gave a guest lecture on "Peacekeeping in Africa" at Ghent University.
  • On 15 March 2011 Hans Hoebeke gave a presentation at a hearing in the Belgian Senate, Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee on the perspectives on the upcoming elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • On 2 March 2011 Hans Hoebeke, senior researcher at the Central Africa Program, delivered a presentation on Politcs and Securty in the DRC for NATO.

  • On 14 Dec. 2010 Jean-Christophe Hoste gave a presentation "African decision making processes: from climate change to the case of the Nile Basin and South Sudan" at the Africa Briefing: "Africa-EU: Decision-Making after the Summit" organised by the Africa Programme of Egmont in the framework of a collaboration between L'Observatoire de l'Afrique and Europe Africa Research Network in Brussels.
  • On 8-9 Nov. 2010 Jean-Christophe Hoste gave a presentation "African decision making processes: from climate change to the case of the Nile Basin and South Sudan" at the conference: "The Dynamics of Decision-Making in Africa" organised by the Egmont-Royal Institute for International Relations, Institute for Global Dialogue and Institute for Security Studies in Pretoria, South Africa.
  • On 27-28 Oct. Hans Hoebeke gave a presentation on Security Sector Reform at the Chatham House conference: "Ensuring Peace and Security in Africa: Implementing the New Africa-EU Partnership" - Conference report.
  • On 13-15 Oct. 2010 Jean-Christophe Hoste was invited to give a presentation "Beyond Development: political context analysis as a tool for a more effective EU-Africa Partnership" at the round table: "Africa-EU Relations: Debates on the EARN Political Dialogue Report on Common Concerns", organised by the Europe Africa Research Network (EARN) in Praia, Cape Verde.
  • Steven Van Bockstael presented a paper on the interface between artisanal mining and smallholder farming in Liberia, at the Biennial Conference of the African Studies Association of the UK, organised at St. Anthony's College of the University of Oxford (16-19 Sept.). He also participated in an expert panel on mining and smallholder farming in Ghana and Western Africa, at the University of Reading (20 Sept.).
  • On 10-13 May 2010 Jean-Christophe Hoste gave the lecture "Where was united Africa in the climate change negotiations?" at the conference: After the Financial Crisis, A Progressive Agenda for Africa organised by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies, Cape Town.
  • On 23 March 2010 Jean-Christophe Hoste gave a lecture about "Understanding the political economy of the African Group in the run up to Copenhagen and the implications for the future", EDC2020 Post Copenhagen: Practical Consequences for Europe Briefing session for Parliamentarians and Policy Makers.
