Budgetary and Monetary Aspects

To realise the objectives of the treaties, the EU has a budget. The single currency and the stability pact are indispensable to preserve the financial équilibrium of the Union.

Lisbon Strategy

Despite the limited results of the Lisbon Strategy 2000 (re-launched in 2005) aiming to making the economy of the EU the world's most competitive and dynamic economy by 2010, the European Union intends to adopt a renewed "EU 2020 strategy" by March-June 2010.

i2010 and the Information Society

With a view to relaunching the Lisbon strategy, the construction of an Information Society has been identified as one of the Union's priorities. The use of ICT by all European citizens and by the public services and industry should establish a Single European Information Space that contributes to a sustainable economic growth.
