With the creation of the European Defence Fund and the EU’s institutional transition, increasing attention is turning to the role of EU institutions such as the European Commission in steering European defence cooperation. Yet, how should we understand the role of governments, industry and institutions in formulating EU defence-industrial policy?

Sharing insights from his latest book on defence industrial cooperation in the EU, Dr Daniel Fiott will show how political and economic preferences come together at the national level and the effect they have on the EU policy process. Sylvia Kainz-Huber (European Commission) and Professor Luis Simón (VUB & Elcano) will act as discussants. Professor Sven Biscop (Egmont & Ghent University) will chair the event.
