Crises in Kasai: historic and current dynamics between the region and the state

The Egmont Institute has the pleasure to invite you to an Africa Lunch Meeting on the 12th of December with Dr. Zoë Sara Strother, Riggio Professor of Art at Columbia University in New York Dr. Strother discussed the multiple layers of the Kasai crisis. She examined the culture of chieftaincy in the Kasai region, its role in shaping public authority in rural Kasai, and the legacy of historical traumas as they relate to the current conflict around Tshikapa. Furthermore the difficulties in understanding and investigating the crisis in Kasai were analysed discussing the patterns of deadly violence.
