Bio

Hans Hoebeke

Since May 2006, Hans Hoebeke is senior researcher at the Africa Programme of Egmont (Royal Institute for International Relations). His main research focus includes political and security developments in the DRC, Rwanda, Burundi, the wider Great Lakes Region and strategic developments in Sub-Sahara Africa.

Before joining the Institute, Hans Hoebeke worked as a desk officer at the Belgian Ministry for Foreign Affairs (1997-2000), as Attaché at the Cabinet of the Minister for Foreign Affairs (1999), as political analyst at the Belgian Ministry of Defense (2000-2005) and as a Research Fellow at the Conflict Research Unit (CRU) of the Clingendael Institute (The Hague, the Netherlands).

In April 2011 Hans Hoebeke became the Belgian member of the newly established Executive Academic Board in support of EU Security Sector Reform training (EAB SSR) within the European Security and Defence College.

Hans Hoebeke holds a Licence in Political Science (International Relations) from Ghent University (1996) and is fluent in Dutch, French and English.

He has been appointed Director of the Africa Programme since 1 May 2011.
