Expert Seminar - 26 April 2007- Concept

Towards a real new Energy Policy for Europe?

Concept

On 9 March 2007, the European Council resolved ambitious measures on energy and climate change and adopted a European Energy Action Plan outlining three goals regarding security of supply, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. At a political level, the action plan can be considered as a significant milestone in the establishment of an integrated energy policy for Europe. Nevertheless, the concern remains as to the outreach of the action plan as well as the necessary actions to be taken by the Member States in order to attain their commitments.

A couple of weeks after the March European Summit, the time seems appropriate to jointly assess the whole process and to examine the follow-up and the common challenges ahead. The internal aspects as well as the external dimension of this topic will be addressed through 2 panels with 2 presentations to introduce the debate. It will be preceded by a working lunch. It is foreseen that a restraint audience of approximately 30 experts will attend the seminar.
