Biography

Ionela Rusti joined the Egmont Institute in January 2023 as a Research Trainee in the European Affairs Programme. She is currently pursuing her second master’s degree at KU Leuven in Belgium, where she specializes in International Politics. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in European Studies from Babes-Bolyai University in Romania, where she also finalized her first master in Cultural Diplomacy and International Relations.

Ionela is mostly concerned with the study of conflict and peace processes, focusing on the role of international mediators in the peaceful resolution of violent conflicts as well as on the possible causes of intra-state wars. Her research so far has been centered around the European Union’s foreign policy with regard to its crisis management policies and peacekeeping missions.
