Gustaaf Geeraerts is Distinguished Professor in the School of International Relations and Public Affairs and Co-director of the Center for China-EU Relations, Fudan University. He is Professor Emeritus and founding director of the Brussels Institute of Contemporary China Studies (BICCS), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).
From 2006 to 2008 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Economic, Social and Political Sciences & Solvay Business School of VUB. Professor Gustaaf Geeraerts holds Guest Professorships at the Renmin University and Sichuan University.
From 1999 until 2004 he was an Honorary Professor at the University of Kent at Canterbury. He is also an Editorial Board member of Global Society: Journal of Interdisciplinary International Relations , Res Publica (the major Belgian Political Science journal) and Studia Diplomatica. The Brussels Journal of International Relations. His research interests centre on contemporary China, Chinese foreign policy, EU-China relations, and international relations.
Throughout his career Gustaaf Geeraerts has published 8 books and edited volumes. His articles appeared among others in China Journal of International Politics, Global Society, Chinese Political Science Review, Asian Politics & Policy, European Review, China Report, Security Dialogue, China International Studies, System Research, Asia Papers, Oriental Outlook, Res Publica and Studia Diplomatica. In 2003 he published together with his Chinese colleague of Fudan University, Chen Zhimin, Foreign Policy Integration in European Union: A Mission Impossible? Beijing, Shishi Publishing House, 2003, for which they received the Shanghai Research Reward in 2003.
