Many discussions at and around the European Humanitarian Forum (EHF) focus on the structural and political challenges facing the aid system—fragility, shrinking humanitarian space, global aid cuts—and the EU’s attempt to respond through efforts such as the ‘humanitarian reset.’ Yet what remains missing is a focused conversation on what should be expected from the EU in this new context.
This roundtable, co-organized by the Norwegian Refugee Council and the Egmont Institute, invites senior humanitarian and development leaders to reflect on:
- What leadership should look like from the EU in the coming years
- How that leadership is perceived and whether it matches sector expectations;
- Whether the current political and financial context allows room for ambition.
- Agenda:
12:00-12:30: Arrival of participants and welcoming lunch
12:30-12:35: Welcoming remarks by Edouard Rodier, Director NRC Europe
12:35-12:45: Keynote address by Jan Egeland, Secretary General, NRC
12:45-12:55: Keynote address by Barry Andrews, MEP, Chair of DEVE Committee
12:55-13:55: Roundtable Discussion moderated by Edouard Rodier
13:55-14:00: Closing Reflections
