The European Affairs Program hosted a roundtable to discuss on the expected demographic changes in Europe and the World for the next decade.

After the first introductory remarks from Peter Bosch, associate fellow at the Egmont Institute, three high level speakers introduced the discussion by presenting a series of reports.

Ms. Birgit Van Hout, Director of the UNFPA Representation Office to the European Union focused her presentation on ageing and low fertility as an overarching trend globally, drawing from the UNFPA State of the World Population report. Mr. Philipp Ueffing, Scientific Officer at the Demography and Migration Unit of the Joint Research Center at the European Commission, focused on the respective roles of fertility and migration in the EU population dynamics. Mr. Fabrizio Natale, Team Leader of the Demography and Migration Unit at the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, closed the presentation by developing on the need to pursue adoption policies in labour markets and regional disparities, providing insights beyond the Draghi and Letta reports.

This working lunch provided a valuable opportunity for a constructive exchange of global, national and regional perspectives on demographic and migration-related challenges with leading experts in the field.
