From 17 to 28 November 2025, the Education & Training Programme of the Egmont Institute, together with the North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) Police, co-organised a new Belgian–German edition of the Bilateral Generic Training (BGT) in Civilian Crisis Management.
Bringing together 13 Belgian and German experts (the majority of them women), this training aims to strengthen cooperation, mutual understanding, and preparedness for future deployments in Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) and United Nations Civilian Crisis Management missions.
The first week opened with introductory briefings, including presentations on the upcoming simulation exercises, followed by the traditional Cooper Test, a 12-minute endurance challenge. The second week continued at the State Office for Training, Further Education and Personnel Affairs (LAFP) of the NRW Police in Brühl, where participants revisited key principles of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, examined their mandated tasks in UN and EU missions, and discussed the core responsibilities associated with international police work.
The Egmont Institute warmly thanks all partners for their contribution to this edition, including the FPS Foreign Affairs, FPS Justice, the Belgian Police, Belgian Defence, and the experts who supported the sessions and practical exercises.
