Thirty junior Burundian diplomats took part in a three-day intensive training in Bujumbura, organised in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burundi and supported by Enabel and the Embassy of Belgium. The programme, delivered by Ambassadors Bénédicte Frankinet and Renier Nijskens, covered the fundamentals of diplomatic work, including reporting, communication, networking, protocol, and multilateral diplomacy.
A second training will take place in September 2025 in Bujumbura, ahead of Burundi’s assumption of the Presidency of the African Union in 2026. It will focus on strategic and multilateral preparation and will bring together 30 new participants from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Presidency. This second session will be led by Ambassadors Jozef Smets and Koen Vervaeke.
