Clint Tanti, Head of Cabinet of Commissioner Glenn Micallef (Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport), presented the European Commission’s 2025 Strategic Foresight Report, Resilience 2.0: empowering the EU to thrive amid turbulence and uncertainty. He emphasised that strategic foresight is not about prediction, but about future-proofing today’s policies by anticipating disruption and strengthening long-term resilience. The report serves as a strategic compass for EU policymaking, updating key global and EU-specific challenges and identifying four critical tensions: competitiveness and strategic autonomy; technological innovation and safeguards; well-being in the context of demographic and climate change; and democracy in the age of algorithm-driven media. To navigate these, Resilience 2.0 advances a proactive, transformative approach structured around eight areas of action, including security, economic resilience, technology, democracy, and intergenerational fairness. A central message was the need to embed strategic foresight systematically across the policymaking cycle, ensuring EU action remains anticipatory, coherent, and resilient in an increasingly uncertain world.
