The European Directive on Temporary Protection has been at the centre of many debates since the arrival of people who fled Ukrainian. Today, more than two years after the start of the war, it’s crucial to reflect on the reception and integration of Ukrainians as well as on the future of Temporary Protection.

The dialogue featured a presentation by Lodewijk Asscher, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Employment of the Netherlands, now serving as Ukraine Adviser to Nicolas Schmit, the EU Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights. Mr. Asscher presented findings from the ‘Integration of People Feeling Ukraine in the EU’ report, published in May 2023. Thomas Van Diest and Arne Cools, both Advisors at the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration Nicole De Moor, provided valuable insights into the Belgian federal government’s role in implementing the TPD.
