Based on a first-hand account and a decade of studying Kenyan politics, Nic Cheeseman, Professor of Democracy at the University of Birmingham and former Director of the African Studies Centre at Oxford University, discussed the 2017 Kenyan elections, including the role played by international actors, the performance of the electoral commission, and the strategies of the rival political leaders. He contextualized the unprecedented annulment of the election results by the Supreme Court and raised the issues at stake in re-run of the elections on 17 October.
