This members-only conference aims to analyse the link between the European Union Critical Materials Act and the situation in Central Africa. After an overview of the Act and the current strategy of the European Union (Victor De Decker, Egmont Institute), the link will be made with critical raw materials in Central Africa and the possibilities for what is called a strategic partnership (Erik Kennes, Egmont Institute). A case study about a possible strategic partnership with the Democratic Republic of the Congo concerning cobalt will be presented (Elisabeth Caesens, Resource Matters). Finally, Emmanuel Umpula (Afrewatch, DRC) will take up the perspective from the DRC on the strategy of the European Union (tbc).
