Gilles Danneel

Biography

Gilles Danneel joined the Egmont Institute in September 2025 as a Trainee Programme Assistant for the European Affairs Programme. He holds a Master’s degree in European Studies from KU Leuven, with a specialisation in EU foreign policy. His thesis looked at the role of the concept of the Coordinated Maritime Presences within the EU’s maritime security architecture.

His research focuses on EU institutional dynamics, enlargement processes, the geopolitical shifts within the EU, and the Union’s foreign and security policy.

Before joining Egmont, Gilles completed an internship at DeHavilland EU in Brussels, where he gained experience in monitoring and analysing EU policy developments for government relations professionals.
