Biography

Alexis Brouhns began his diplomatic career in 1980. He was posted to Rome, Lagos and Warsaw before becoming spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988. He then served as Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative of Belgium to the United Nations in New York, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Secretary General of NATO, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Foreign Trade and Ambassador of Belgium to Ankara.

After serving as Belgium’s Ambassador to the European Union’s Political and Security Committee, he was appointed EU Special Envoy to North Macedonia.

He continued his professional career within the Solvay Group, where he served as Senior Executive Vice President for Europe and Global Corporate Affairs.

He has a Master’s degree in law, UCLouvain; a Master’s degree in European and international law, VUB; and an International Executive Programme, Fontainebleau.

Mr. Brouhns was appointed as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Egmont Institute in January 2026.
